The worst part of my experience with the 16-inch model I have is actually not the noisy of the CPU fan (which is the second-worst), but when it gets hot, the Touch ID sensor somehow stops working from time to time.ĭesipte the new 14-inch model is slightly heavier than the previous 16-inch model, the overall size feels like a toy size to me, and perfect to my use case to be my portable device.

Another upside of having a separate and smaller laptop allows me to carry around when I’m not at my desk, without plugging and unplugging my 16-inch to all the wires every time.Ĭomparing MacBooks between a base and a top-tier model sounds unfair, but I’m once again being reminded that Apple is a hardware company (who makes shitty software 🙂). I’m still a bit conservative so I want to get a taste of M1-chip first, and to see what’s the impact to my day-to-day workflow, espcially what tools are not working (which I heard a lot last year). I do not plan to have this new MacBook Pro 14 M1 Pro to be a replacement of my existing 16-inch model. I was super excited for no reason, to be honest, but still pre-ordered the 14-inch base model and got it on the first day of shipping.

This year, for some reasons, maybe because I got a Mi Box and watched too many YouTube videos talking about how performant M1-chips are, made me watch the Apple event live, which released stunning new models of MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch.

In fact, I even made the decision later same year to get a top-tier MacBook Pro 16 with the Intel-chip to upgrade my home office setup.

I did not pay attention to M1-chip MacBooks when they were first being announced in 2020 because I believed it was too cutting-edge and the ecoysystem needs time to catch up, which in hindsight was a right call.
